We care a lot about making our house a home, and for many, an easy way of achieving the desired impact is picking the right colours.

The most popular colour trends in 2020

Sellhousefast.uk used the search engine tool SEMrush to explore the most searched for interior colours found from three leading British paint brands (Dulux, Farrow and Bull, Little Greene).

Sellhousefast.uk discovered that grey is the most popular interior colour, receiving the highest average monthly search volumes per brand. Grey topping the list seems unsurprising, being a versatile colour, suiting every home! From warm to cool shades, there is a perfect shade of grey for everyone.

Furthermore, Sellhousefast.uk can reveal that Dulux is the most popular brand for paint, with a whopping 52,700 average monthly searches in the UK for their top 10 paint shades.  Farrow and Bull are next with 34,600 average monthly searches related to their top 10 colours. Whilst Little Greene has far fewer, with just 4,150 average monthly searches for their top colours.

Dulux’ polished pebble (grey paint) was the most searched for paint, receiving 9,900 monthly searches. This is more than double the amount of searches Farrow and Balls’ most common paint is searched for on Google (Cornforth white received 4,400 monthly searches).

Furthermore, Little Greene most popular colour is French grey with 1,000 monthly searches, highlighting that Dulux’ most popular colour had nearly 10x more searches than Little Greene’s.

Although, the study discovered that white and beige interior colours are on the rise. These were the second most popular interior colours, with Dulux’ White mist topping the list (4,400 searches last month). The most popular beige colour is Dulux Egyptian cotton (4,400 searches).

Blue is the third most popular colour, being favoured by many interior designers. Sellhousefast.uk found that the most popular shade of blue is in fact Farrow and Balls’ Hague blue (3,600 monthly searches) – a strong shade of blue.  Sapphire salute by Dulux also received 3,600 monthly searches.
